What do you do with your hair?

Are you experimental? simple? keep it long, short, layered, colored, streaked, weaved, where wigs, could care less? I don't know, I'm going through this phase where I want something different from the medium length straight hair. I'll curl it sometimes and i recently cut it a bit shorter but not short short and put a whole bunch of layers, but i don't like it anymore cuz requires too much maintaining and i get frustrated and have a bad hair day if i don't give enough attention to it. So, i plan to grow it out again. I've even considered whering extentions like celebs do but don't have the money for that, lol, but i want to grow it out long again which might take forever and streak it red cuz my hair is black. i've streaked it once before but with lighter brown highlights.
so girls and guys what is your hair like, is it curly, straight, does it do what you want it to? I know some people are lucky and get hair that is easier to take care of, some don't.

My hair is shoulder-length and curly. I keep changing my mind on how I want it though. Right now, I'm letting it grow out, but I'm sure that will change in the next month or two.

my hair is so thin, i just shave it down to the level of the shortest hair. hmm.

My hair is long, one length, and kind of wavy. I straighten my hair and I'm thinking about getting highlights. I don't like very short, curly or layered hair for me. I usually just wear my hair down, but sometimes I put it up on top or in a ponytail.

My hair is shoulder length, and has some natural wave/curl to it. Not realy tight curls, just small ones. I've been told many times that by keeping it layered, it accents that wave, which people seem to find pretty. But by keeping it longer, it's easier to take care of. I literally wash it, run a pick through the long part, fix my bangs, (which are fairly short) and am done. No spending 45 minutes in front of the mirror on my hair. Woohoo! I also do not blow-dry it, unless I'm about ready to go out into the freezing cold before it has a chance to dry on its own. Blow-drying is very bad for your hair. My older sisters, who are incredibly girly, have tried to get me to put highlights in it before. (My hair is brown by the way, with a couple natural highlights of it's own. But every other sighted friend or family member I have talked to has told me it looks very pretty as it is. Plus, once you start doing that highlighting and coloring crap, you have to keep doing it. No, thanks. I like to look good, but I also like to be low-maintenance.

I don't do any of the coloring stuff either. Most of the time I wash and brush or comb it and just let it dry on its own, unless I'm going out somewhere. I sometimes put it up in a pony tail, but not much.

My hair is very long, but very fine, streight and dark brown. i can't leave the house without it in a ponytail otherwise it blows everywhere due to the fineness of it. so just wash brush it, and tie it back.

I used to have long hair when I was a little girl, then I shortened it...now I'm growing it out again. I don't do much with my hair, though; I just like a different look once in awhile.

Ive always had long wavy hair till now; i wanted to cut it for labor so now its bout a lil past my shoulders. I have dyed my hair & plan to again after my delivery. Most of the time i like to keep it strait. I have also curled it. I hate keepin it one style, i change it up all the time. I mite also let it grow back but who knows...

Shoulder-length wavy light brown with natural high-lights. I either wear it up in a ponytail or down. People say it looks pretty when it's down, so I'm trying to keep it down more often. I too have fine hair and it tends to fly everywhere soit's easier for me to have it up all the time, but there are times I want to look my best and will wear it down.

shorter than shoulder length. I keep it medium blond, with light blond highlights. I have it layered and sort of tapered around my face. I have a good stylist, the daughter of a friend. I pay about $30 for a cut, but she always washes it, and styles it. I like going to the same person, cause then if I want to change my look, she gives me good ideas. I need to get my highlights redone, but it can wait a couple of weeks. I love keeping my ahir updated, and I use good shampoo. Hair is an investment, and I've found that the good shampoos work better. That's one thing I allow myself to splurge on.

I usually shave my head and weave my hair into little figurings and talk to them. It comforts me to know that I am not the only alive being in this world.

haha to Smoky. Put a smile on my face there. I had long hair growing up, but as soon as I graduated high school, I had it cut and donated it to Locks of Love, to help children with cancer get whigs. I never liked long hair and it drove me nuts when Mom would style and brush it every day. She was/is really into all of that and has tons of pictures of me with all different appearances. These days, I have it nice and short, ending a few inches after the start of my neck. I have to keep it layered and feathered (whatever that is) because I have a cowlick that keeps popping up and makes me look/feel like an idiot. My theory is comb and go and that's exactly what I've been able to do with this style. It's always been very thick and we're always joking that it grows back like a weed. I let Mom put highlights made from an herbal formula (I refuse to touch any synthetic dyes etc) in it once every few months. Since I've really gained my independence, I'm sure it's a bit of a comfort for her. They bring out the blondness of my hair, which is already there. Otherwise, I've been told it's a dirty blond. I think if someone charged me $30 for a haircut, I'd fall off the chair. That said, I love using high quality natural shampoos and conditioners, as they make it feel soft and smooth.

I get 2 perms a year and 3 cuts a year. I also had the long hair deal with my mother styling it but when I started working, I only wanted short hair. Never have and won't deal with coloring my hair. It's a dark brown. I do use the conditioner and shampoos that keep my hair soft and shiny. I have one stylist too who everybody says does a great job on my hair.

I got my hair cut up short when I was 8 and it's been short ever since. Well, Until now.
It's a little longer, I've tried growing it out a few times and got bored of waiting. I've had red highlights, red tails, blond, blue and i'm back to my natural dark brown.
Too long to spike now but I want something wild! I don't mind hair I have to work with. Gel, clay, mousse, straightners, I don't care as long as it looks different, in a good way.

Few years ago I was under a lot of stress and lost a big clump of hair. That was the worst feeling ever. Now while I have it i'm gonna make the most of it. Whoo Hoo!

I have black hair that I keep in layers. it's about half way down my back. It's wavy, so it can get crazy. Mostly, I just have it tied back, or if I want to look cute I will take the time to straighten it, but that takes forever! Sometimes I'll just opt to put a lot of jell in it and crinkle it up and make it curly, that's faster and it still looks nice. As for colors, I'll go through weird phases XD. I've only ever dyed the tips though because my family would shoot me. I've had orange, blue, green, and most recently a purple that didn't take to my hair and came out red.
I'm thinking of getting dark pink highlights in it though, that would be awesome! I also want to do a different cut, but I don't know quite what I want yet./

I got a perm once. I will never do that again! I like the low maintenance thing, as long as it looks okay. The only time I'm picky is when I'm getting it cut. I always get long layers, as my hair is slightly longer than shoulder length, and I like my bangs fairly short. It really gives it some volume which it wouldn't have otherwise. Other than that, I just wash and condition it almost every day, and wear it down unless I'm going somewhere formal, in which case I either curl it, or put it in french braids.

That reminds me: Does anybody have advice for using curling irons? I've never figured out a good way, not that I curl it very often.

Post 21 by VioletBlue (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Monday, 08-Feb-2010 1:24:40

Another Low maintenance girl, here. My hair is waist-length and thin, unless weather is humid, then it becomes wavy and gorgeous!

I just brush and keep it partially out of my face with a plastic headband, although lately I have trouble finding ones that are small enough; kids sizes fit me, the others don't. That's tough because I don't want anything glittery and colorful, really, I want something neutral that will blend in, but that's almost impossible to find.

I'm not great at doing ponytails, but if I get frustrated enough pushing hair out of my face, I try. LOL

Still, I wouldn't cut my long hair for anything. My mother forced me to keep short, permed hair as a teenager, and I hated it. I think I just read too many romance novels about beautiful ladies with long flowing dresses and hair, so that's what I aspire to, now. LOL

My mum always made me wear my hair very short, only up to the start of my neck. She says I could not style longer hair. But now that I live far away from her, I grow it out, because I think it looks more lady-like. It's naturally wavy, medium brown and, unfortunately, quite thin, so the stylists put a lot of layers in it. I want to learn how to put it into a pony tail or emphasize the natural waves. Was thinking of a perm but not sure if it looks good on me and if I can do it, as I'm a bit clumsy. I just thought of it because I thought maybe it makes it look a bit thicker. I never colour it. I used to, but not anymore. My Stylists say that's good. I usually just wash it and condition it, then brush it and use two small clips to push it out of my face. It's getting longer though so I will have to use other things to put it out of my face. I never blow-dry it, unless I really have to.

Post 23 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Monday, 08-Feb-2010 14:21:04

That's probably a great idea. I find that blow drying thin hair makes it look frizzy, although that's just my opinion. I got a perm. I certainly don't recommend it if you're like me, and have to have the softest hair possible. Lol. If you do, I recommend buying a heavy conditioner, putting it in your hair after you wash it, and leave it in all day. That's what my hair dresser told me. She said to do that once a month, and it'll keep your hair from drying out.
